Rayston Spray D50: Pure Polyurea Radon and Methane Barrier Membrane

Rayston Spray D50 is a pure polyurea membrane, free of solvents and mineral fillers, applied with a plural-component spray machine to form a continuous, high-performance waterproofing, radon and methane barrier membrane.

01 · Uses

Uses of a radon and methane barrier membrane

  • Water tanks holding highly aggressive, corrosive chemicals; wastewater treatment plants and biogas digesters.
  • Secondary containment tanks resistant to chemical spills.
  • Foundations with root-penetration resistance, forming a barrier against radon, methane and harmful soil contaminants.
  • Protective coating and methane barrier in LNG tanks and biogas facilities, and protection of concrete against carbonation.

02 · Application

Application of Rayston Spray D50

Mix ratio is A=1 : B=1.13 by weight (1:1 by volume) and the minimum application rate is 2 kg/m². Recommended temperatures are 65 °C for component A, 70 °C for component B and 65 °C for the hose, at a pressure of at least 130 bar.

The substrate must be between 5 °C and 40 °C and at least 3 °C above the dew point.

04 · Performance

Rayston Spray D50 performance as a gas barrier

Hardness is 55D (ISO 868), elongation 500%, tensile strength 26 MPa (UNE EN ISO 527-1/3) and tear strength 110 N/mm (ISO 34-1).

The radon diffusion coefficient is 8 × 10⁻¹² m²/s, methane permeability 140 Ncm³·mm/(m²·day·bar), and CO₂ permeability μ = 50484 above 1 mm thickness. The membrane is watertight at 100 kPa (EN 1928) and bridges cracks statically (A5 at -10 °C) and dynamically (B4.2 at -20 °C).

Application data

  • Mix ratio: A=1, B=1.13 by weight; A=1, B=1 by volume
  • Gel time (A+B, 20 g): 4 s at 25 °C, 3 s at 60 °C
  • Recommended temperatures: component A 65 °C, component B 70 °C, hose 65 °C
  • Spray pressure: at least 130 bar
  • Minimum application rate: 2 kg/m²
  • Substrate temperature: 5–40 °C and 3 °C above dew point
  • Return to service (25 °C, 50% RH): rain-resistant after 5 min, light foot traffic after 1 h
