Polyurea Rayston X5: Expansive Polyurea for Roofs and Uneven Substrates

Polyurea Rayston X5 is an expansive polyurea for hot-spray waterproofing. It grows to 3–5 times its initial volume, filling cracks and levelling irregular substrates.

01 · Uses

Uses of an expansive polyurea

  • Waterproofing of non-trafficable roofs or roofs with light foot traffic.
  • High-yield first coat that improves adhesion and levels the substrate before a polyurea layer.
  • Walking-comfort layer in flooring, or a continuous membrane for impact-sound reduction.

Rayston X5 also appears in asbestos-cement roof work – see asbestos encapsulation with an ETA.

02 · Application

Application of Polyurea Rayston X5

Mix ratio is A=100 : B=110 by weight (A=100 : B=100 by volume). Standard dosage is 1–1.5 kg/m², which builds a membrane more than 5 mm thick. Cream time is 7–8 s at 25 °C and 4 s at 50 °C.

Recommended temperatures are 60 °C for both components at roughly 100–120 bar, on a substrate between 10 °C and 40 °C.

04 · Performance

Polyurea Rayston X5 performance

The result is a continuous, flexible membrane with a density of 200 kg/m³, hardness 45–50A (ISO 868), elongation above 125%, tensile strength 1.7 MPa and tear strength 7.7 N/mm.

Static crack-bridging is class A5 (EN 1062-7) and the membrane is watertight at 10 kPa (1 m water column, EN 1928). Thermal conductivity of 0.044 W/m·K and a 23 dB impact-sound reduction at 10 mm add value beyond waterproofing.

Application data

  • Mix ratio: A=100, B=110 by weight; A=100, B=100 by volume
  • Cream time: 7–8 s at 25 °C, 4 s at 50 °C
  • Recommended temperatures: component A 60 °C, component B 60 °C
  • Pressure: about 100–120 bar
  • Standard dosage: 1–1.5 kg/m² for a membrane thicker than 5 mm
  • Substrate temperature: 10–40 °C

05 · FAQ

Polyurea Rayston X5: frequently asked questions

Polyurea Rayston X5 expands to 3–5 times its initial volume as it reacts, so it fills cracks and evens out rough substrates.

The standard dosage is 1–1.5 kg/m², giving a membrane over 5 mm thick.

It is intended for non-trafficable roofs or light foot traffic, and as a comfort or impact-sound layer under flooring.
