Rayston Floor D40 FR: Seamless Hot-Spray Polyurea Floor Coating
Rayston Floor D40 FR is a hot-spray polyurea floor coating applied by machine, totally free of solvents and mineral fillers. Once cured it forms a fully continuous coating with no joints or overlaps: mechanically tough, weather-resistant, thermoset and flexible enough to bridge possible cracks in the substrate.
- Product: Rayston Floor D40 FR
- Application: hot-spray flooring
- Mix: A=1 : B=1.05 by weight / 1:1 by volume
- Gel time: 8–9 s at 25 °C
- Colours: light grey, dark grey, rust red, blue
The membrane cures in seconds and the floor is back in use within a few hours.
01 · Uses
Uses of a hot-spray polyurea floor coating
- Coating of concrete or steel floors, always with a suitable primer.
- Protection of concrete floor structures, especially those exposed outdoors.

02 · Application
Application of Rayston Floor D40 FR
Rayston Floor D40 FR is applied only with spray equipment suitable for hot two-component systems. Concrete is prepared mechanically by abrasive blasting or scarifying to remove laitance and open the pores, then primed and levelled to a regular surface; sharp irregularities are removed with a grinder, and dust by brush, broom or vacuum.
The substrate must be flat and cohesive with a pull-off strength of at least 1.5 N/mm², moisture below 4%, ambient humidity below 85% and a temperature between 10 °C and 40 °C; above 45 °C, extra measures apply per the manufacturer. If residual moisture is suspected, consult the technical department to avoid surface blistering – see also pinholes and blisters.
Over an epoxy primer, spray only once the primer is dry (about 8 hours). The required thickness is usually reached in one coat; if a second pass is needed, apply it immediately after the first.

04 · Performance
Rayston Floor D40 FR performance
Hardness is 90A/40D, maximum elongation 400% and Taber abrasion about 25 mg (CS17, 1000 c, 1 kg), with a Bfl-s1 fire classification.
Aromatic polyurea changes colour in sunlight without losing mechanical properties, so an aliphatic topcoat is recommended where appearance matters outdoors. Under normal conditions (25 °C, 50–60% RH) the coating resists rain within 15 minutes and takes light foot traffic within 1 hour.
Application data
- Mix ratio: A=1, B=1.05 by weight; A=1, B=1 by volume
- Gel time (A+B, 20 g): 8–9 s at 25 °C, 4–6 s at 60 °C
- Recirculation before heating: 25–30 °C (40 °C max.)
