01 · Project overview

What is this project?

Planter Protection in Madrid, 100 square metres in 2025. España – Madrid. The products on the job are ProLine PU 1000 TC. Madrid gives a coating a hard light and a wide year, hot pavements in summer and frost on steel by winter.

In March 2025, Constructora San José coated 100 m² with a polyurethane primer and Krypton Proline PU1000 TC.

The coated face is the outside of the box, the side that takes weather, not the soil inside.

Krypton Proline PU1000 TC Role here: Protective coat on the outside of the planters.

Krypton Chemical supplies the resin system. The duty is ordinary and strict: keep water, wear and weather on the right side of the structure, and do it in the details as well as in the open field.

02 · The challenge

What did this structure ask of the system?

Steel outdoors fails at the edges, the welds and the fixings, not in the middle of a flat bar. Water sits in a lap, and the coating that was thin there is the first to open.

Planter Protection in Madrid is that kind of duty. The surface has to be got back to sound metal, the edges striped before the full coat, and the film thick enough that a handrail still has a coating after people lean on it. Across 100 square metres, a thin spot is not a small repair.

03 · The solution

Which system was trusted here?

The system trusted here is the one named for the job: ProLine PU 1000 TC. It is chosen because it matches the substrate and the exposure, not because every building wants the same can.

The build-up is there to survive the exposure this structure actually has, including the lines where workmanship usually goes thin.

04 · Application

How is the system built?

Steel is prepared back to a sound, rough surface. Mill scale, rust and old film that has lost its bond come off. Edges, welds and fixings are striped before the full coat, because those are the places a spray or a roller leaves thin. Salt and dirt are washed off, and the steel is dry before the coating goes on.

The full coat then covers the stripe, at a film that can take a hand and the weather. A walkway is not a roof. People lean on it, chains knock it, and rain sits in the joints. The coating has to be there after that, not only on the day it looked finished.

On Planter Protection in Madrid the metal is the substrate and the problem. Mill scale looks stable and is not. A coating over scale fails in sheets the first winter. Edges cut in the workshop are sharp, and a wet film pulls away from a sharp edge, so the stripe coat is not optional. Welds are rough and hold moisture. They are cleaned and striped too.

Outdoor steel in this climate cycles every day. The film has to stick, and it has to have thickness left after a year of hands, weather and the odd knock. A walkway is worse than a roof in one way: people touch it. The coating is a barrier first and a colour second.

Inspection is simple and it is visual. Holidays on edges, missed backs of bars, and fixings that were coated only on the face. Those are the places to look before the job is called finished.

05 · Results

What does a job like this stand behind?

Planter Protection in Madrid has one standard. The coating is still doing its job after the building is back in use, at the details as well as in the middle. The area on this job is 100 square metres.

Figures for cure, thickness and strength, where they are given, come from the product data sheets. They are not a test cut out of this building.

What this asks of Planter Protection in Madrid is workmanship at the difficult line. The open field is the easy part of a resin job. Outlets, edges, penetrations and changes of plane are where thickness goes missing, and where water or wear finds the gap. The same products and the same care belong there, and the cure is allowed to finish before the building goes back into use. That is the difference between a coating that was simply applied and a system that stays in service.

07 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where is this project?

Planter Protection in Madrid. España – Madrid

When was the work done?

2025.

Which products were used?

ProLine PU 1000 TC.

Where does a metal coating fail?

At edges, welds and fixings, where the film is thinnest and water sits.

Why stripe the edges first?

A full coat over a bare edge is still thin on the edge. A stripe coat puts thickness where the weather starts.
