Podium decks

Podium decks require a continuous waterproofing build-up matched to plaza traffic, finishes above the membrane, deck movement and plaza drainage. Match the build-up to substrate, exposure and detailing; confirm the current system specification and product technical data sheet.

System layers: Podium decks. Concrete deck / slab → Humidity Primer → Impermax Polyurea H Flex → Colodur.

Use and application

This page covers waterproofing of podium decks. Start by qualifying the substrate, exposure, service level and maintenance constraints. Humidity Primer, Impermax Polyurea H Flex and Colodur are reference points for this use case, not an automatic system selection. Compare the current Products and Systems documentation, and use the associated application context at Car park roofs to keep the scope distinct.

01

Plaza traffic, finishes and deck drainage

Podium and plaza decks carry pedestrian or light vehicular finishes above a waterproofing layer that must remain continuous under paving, planters or screeds. Thermal movement, construction joints and drainage falls must be coordinated with outlets and perimeter upstands. Expansion joints, kerbs, planters, penetrations, thresholds and interfaces with façades or adjacent structures need a continuous, documented detail before the membrane route is fixed.

02

Layers and references

Define the sequence from prepared substrate through primer or bond coat, functional membrane or body coat, reinforcement where specified, and protective or finish layer where required. Use the current technical data sheet for preparation, mixing, consumption, thickness, overcoat windows and cure; the Calculator supports quantities, while Systems and the product references establish the applicable route.

03

Common mistakes

  • Treating the open plaza field as the whole waterproofing detail and omitting expansion joints, planters, kerbs, outlets or façade upstands.
  • Installing finishes over the membrane without protecting continuity at thresholds, penetrations and drainage points.
  • Closing the build-up before checking moisture, adhesion, thickness, cure and weather limits for deck application.

04

Operating sequence

1. Record plaza traffic, finish build-up, deck dimensions, substrate condition and service scenario. 2. Map expansion joints, kerbs, planters, outlets, penetrations, upstands and repair zones. 3. Select a compatible route in Systems and verify every layer against the current technical data sheet. 4. Calculate quantities with the Calculator. 5. Approve a representative area, document preparation and application controls, inspect continuity under planned finishes and release the podium only when the project requirements are met.
