Digesters and WWTPs
Digesters and WWTP structures require a continuous waterproofing and chemical-resistant barrier matched to wastewater, H2S, immersion cycles and concrete tank substrates. Match the build-up to substrate, exposure and detailing; confirm the current system specification and product technical data sheet.
Use and application
This page covers waterproofing of digesters and wwtps. Start by qualifying the substrate, exposure, service level and maintenance constraints. Rayston Epoxy 100 and Polyurea Rayston are reference points for this use case, not an automatic system selection. Compare the current Products and Systems documentation, and use the associated application context at Purification plants to keep the scope distinct.
01
Wastewater, H2S and tank substrates
Exposure differs between immersed zones, splash and vapour spaces where hydrogen sulphide and other gases attack concrete. Concrete brings porosity, alkalinity, moisture and cracking risks; metal fittings require controlled preparation and corrosion management. Joints, wall–floor transitions, penetrations, mixers, feed and discharge connections, overflow weirs and inspection points need a continuous, documented detail.
02
Layers and references
Define the sequence from prepared substrate through primer or bond coat, functional membrane or body coat, reinforcement where specified, and protective or finish layer where required. Use the current technical data sheet for preparation, mixing, consumption, thickness, overcoat windows and cure; the Calculator supports quantities, while Systems and the product references establish the applicable route.
03
Common mistakes
- Treating immersed wastewater service and vapour-space H2S exposure as the same condition without checking chemical compatibility and temperature.
- Applying over damp, contaminated or weak concrete without a documented preparation and moisture check.
- Omitting joints, penetrations, mixers, feed and discharge connections and terminations, or closing the lining before checking continuity, adhesion, thickness, pinholes and cure.
04
Operating sequence
1. Record wastewater chemistry, H2S and immersion zones, temperature, cleaning regime, dimensions and service scenario. 2. Survey concrete condition and map joints, transitions, penetrations, mixers, connections and repair areas. 3. Select a compatible route in Systems and verify every layer against the current technical data sheet. 4. Calculate quantities with the Calculator. 5. Approve a representative area, document preparation and application controls, inspect continuity and release the structure only when the project requirements are met.
