01 · Project overview

What is this project?

Rooftop Pool Secondary Containment in Santiago with Polyurea Rayston in 2021. Latam. The products on the job are Impermax 2K M, Polyurea Rayston, Paintchlore 2K. Latam is the setting, and the exposure is what chooses the build-up.

The crew used three Krypton Chemical products: Impermax 2K M, Polyurea Rayston and Paintchlore 2K.

So any leak of chlorinated water would reach the floors below.

A containment tray under the pools holds that water back.

Krypton Chemical supplies the resin system. The duty is ordinary and strict: keep water, wear and weather on the right side of the structure, and do it in the details as well as in the open field.

02 · The challenge

What did this structure ask of the system?

A pool stays full. Chlorine, warm water and the steps where people stand all sit on one lining. The failure is almost never in the middle of the floor. It is at an outlet, a corner, or a joint someone left for later.

Rooftop Pool Secondary Containment in Santiago with Polyurea Rayston has to be one film, taken around those details while the material can still do it.

03 · The solution

Which system was trusted here?

The system trusted here is the one named for the job: Impermax 2K M, Polyurea Rayston, Paintchlore 2K. It is chosen because it matches the substrate and the exposure, not because every building wants the same can.

The build-up is there to survive the exposure this structure actually has, including the lines where workmanship usually goes thin.

04 · Application

How is the system built?

Where the system is Polyurea Rayston, the concrete or the prepared deck is not sprayed over dirt. Pull-off should be at least 1.4 N/mm2. Cracks are cut out and filled. Moisture in the concrete stays under 4 percent, with the concrete between 10 and 40 degrees C. If the slab is damp behind, two coats of epoxy primer go on, the second blinded with quartz. That bond is what stops a blister when the deck heats up.

The spray is hot. Resin about 65 degrees C, isocyanate about 75 degrees C, hose about 65 degrees C, and at least 140 bar at the gun. The usual build is 1.5 to 2.0 kg per square metre, about 1.5 to 2 mm. Gel time is about 4 seconds at 25 degrees C. Typical elongation is 324 percent and tensile strength is 16.2 MPa. Those are the product’s figures, not a thickness measured on Rooftop Pool Secondary Containment in Santiago with Polyurea Rayston. An aromatic film shifts colour in the sun, so an exposed face takes an aliphatic topcoat. A buried lining does not need that coat to keep its strength.

Impermax is the cold liquid polyurethane. Stir it slowly, let the bubbles rise, and lay it by roller, brush or airless spray. Two coats in different colours, about 1 kg per square metre each, make the coverage obvious. A spiked roller knocks bubbles down while the film is wet. Outlets, upstands and cracks are detailed first. Keep the deck between 5 and 40 degrees C, and keep it dry.

On a warm day a coat is walkable in one or two days. About 90 percent of final properties arrive in three days, and full hardness takes 10 to 15 days. Wait that long before the surface is held under water. Typical elongation is 450 to 600 percent. The resin is aromatic, so a roof left in the sun is given an aliphatic topcoat if the colour has to stay true. Again, these are datasheet figures, not a reading taken on Rooftop Pool Secondary Containment in Santiago with Polyurea Rayston.

On Rooftop Pool Secondary Containment in Santiago with Polyurea Rayston the lining is under water for months at a time. Steps, skimmers and the floor-to-wall corner take the movement and the chlorine together. A joint left in one of those lines will open. The film has to turn the corner at the same build as the floor.

Old tile, where that is the substrate, is a special case. The glaze is a closed face. It is prepared until the resin has something to hold, and every loose tile is out before the primer. Encapsulating a drummy tile is how the lining comes back up in the first season.

Filling waits until the cure the product asks for, not until the pool looks finished. Early water is a soft film and a blister. The outlets are sprayed or rolled into the same film, not collared afterwards.

05 · Results

What does a job like this stand behind?

Rooftop Pool Secondary Containment in Santiago with Polyurea Rayston has one standard. The coating is still doing its job after the building is back in use, at the details as well as in the middle.

Figures for cure, thickness and strength, where they are given, come from the product data sheets. They are not a test cut out of this building.

What this asks of Rooftop Pool Secondary Containment in Santiago with Polyurea Rayston is workmanship at the difficult line. The open field is the easy part of a resin job. Outlets, edges, penetrations and changes of plane are where thickness goes missing, and where water or wear finds the gap. The same products and the same care belong there, and the cure is allowed to finish before the building goes back into use. That is the difference between a coating that was simply applied and a system that stays in service.
